What exactly is a one-of-a-kind greeting card? In my craft, this is a handmade card that cannot be re-created, duplicated or found anywhere else other than from the direct source of creation, the artist.
The transition from idea to creation begins from the materials collected to assemble to the card. I specifically look for antique and vintage books of all sizes and content within, my favorites being large picture books such as old encyclopedias. I find most of my paper ephemera on the side of the road, second-hand shops, thrift stores and everywhere in-between.
When I begin with a book, I first look through its entirety to find the most visual and aesthetically pleasing pages. I then gently tear the pages out and use them as my blank canvases. Each page will become an envelope or be a part of a one-of-a kind greeting card.
Texture, color and content are very important to me. My cards look and feel different because each card has been carefully and thoughtfully assembled to fell unique in its own way. I use old paper because I love the way it feels and I'm in love with the dark, more saturated inks of the past. With the process that I use, the cards take on their own form and presence. Each card speaks differently to everyone and people sometimes have emotional responses to them because they may recognize paper of their past childhood. This is what I love!
My ultimate goal with my design studio of Imagine Card Crafts is to create something completely different, unique and set apart from the normal greeting card.
